The time to invest in humane science is now
Each year in Canada, millions of animals—including mice, rats, rabbits, dogs and primates—are used in painful experiments for research to test chemicals, pesticides and drugs. These outdated methods are not only inhumane—they’re ineffective. Over 90% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human trials, costing billions and delaying progress.
New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)—such as organ-on-a-chip, organoids and AI-driven models—offer faster, safer and more human-relevant alternatives. The U.S. and EU are investing heavily in these technologies. Canada can also become a major player in the NAMs future.
Investing in NAMs will not only protect animals—it will create high-quality jobs in biotech, data science and research, strengthening Canada’s innovation economy.
Humane World for Animals is calling on the federal government to:
-Declare NAMs a national research priority
-Stop funding projects that rely solely on animal models
Urge the Canadian government to invest in animal-free science and grow Canada’s innovation economy.
