I’m writing as your constituent to ask you to join me in supporting Humane World for Animals’ campaign to end the use of cruel farrowing crates for mother pigs. This is an issue I care deeply about: I was shocked to learn that in the UK roughly 200,000 mother pigs spend up to five weeks in cages so small they cannot turn around each time they give birth.

As my MP, I would like your assurance that you support phasing out these cruel cages as quickly as possible and support farmers to replace them with free farrowing systems, which eliminate the worst suffering and allow mother pigs to satisfy their basic welfare needs.

Many people are unaware  that mother pigs across the UK are being locked in these cages for weeks on end, which is why Humane World for Animals will be touring England and Scotland this August with their life-sized animatronic mother pig, Penny, and replica farrowing crate to raise awareness about these cruel cages used on indoor pig farms.

Their tour dates and locations are below. If you can stop by to see Penny and the type of crates that real pigs are confined in, and to speak to people like me who care deeply about pig welfare, then please do!
